Moving away from the party line, most of the politicians preferred not to take oath during the inauspicious `Rahu Kalam` between noon and 1.30 pm, due to which it had to be stopped midway.

Lakshminarayanan, the Protem Speaker, started administering the oath of office at 10 am.

Founder Leader of All India NR Congress and Chief Minister N Rangasamy was the first to sworn in as MLA; after that, his party MLAs took the oath.

Congress, DMK, five independents and three nominated members took oath after Rangasamy`s party but the ceremony stopped a few minutes before the clock struck 12.

Later, it was revealed that the remaining MLAs - four BJP MLAs and one Independent MLA, would be sworn in after Rahu Kalam.

When Rahu Kalam ended at 1.30 pm, father-son BJP members Richard Johnkumar and A Johnkumar, BJP Legislature Party leader A Namassivayam, PML Kalyanasundaram (BJP) and Independent MLA P Angalane were sworn in.

Most of the legislators took oath in the name of God.
