Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc in the country; meanwhile, Puducherry received 996 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24-hours ending at 10 am on Saturday, while 21 people succumbed to the virus in the Union Territory.

Fresh cases on Monday pushed the UTs total cases tally past the 1.2 lakh mark to 1,02,896.

The cumulative death toll has reached 1,497 after 21 persons died of the disease in the last 24-hours.

Among them, 10 people did not have any other serious disease.

The active cases tally has mounted to 13,153.
The Puducherry headquarters received the highest 788 new Covid-19 cases, followed by Karaikal (138), Yanam (34) and Mahe (36).

Director of the Health and Family Welfare department, S Mohan Kumar said that 34,581 vaccine doses have been given to health workers and 21,580 frontline workers.

At the same time, 1,50,569 people in the age group 45+ years have been given doses of Covid-19 vaccines.

UT recorded a test positivity rate (TPR) of 10.92%.

The official said that 1,718 patients have also recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, pushing the total recoveries to 88,246.

The Director said that the recovery rate here is 85.76%, while the death rate stood at 1.45%.
