Covid-19 cases continue to decline in Puducherry, recovery rate moves past 90%

Puducherry received 613 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24-hours ending at 10 am on Saturday, while 12 people succumbed to the virus in the Union Territory.

Fresh cases on Friday pushed the UTs total cases tally to 1,08,439.

The cumulative death toll has reached 1,613 after 12 persons died of the disease in the last 24-hours.

The active cases tally has mounted to 8,783.

The Puducherry headquarters received the highest 470 new Covid-19 cases, followed by Karaikal (106), Yanam (21) and Mahe (16).

Director of the Health and Family Welfare department, S Mohan Kumar said that 35,035 vaccine doses have been given to health workers and 22,332 frontline workers.

At the same time, 1.70 lakh people in all age groups have been vaccinated.

The official said that 1,312 patients have also recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recoveries to 98,043.

The Health Department tested 9,086 lakh samples in the last 24-hours.

UT recorded a test positivity rate (TPR) of 6.75%.

The Director said that the recovery rate here is 90.41%, while the death rate stood at 1.49%.
