Summary:

PUNE: The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has appealed to the teachers of Sinhagad Technical Education Society (STES) to resume their duties at the earliest in the academic interest of students and parents. The staff of the college has been agitating since five months against the management over non-payment of salaries. In a statement issued by SPPU signed by vice-chancellor Nitin Karmalkar , the varsity stated that, “The University has taken stringent action leading to concrete remedial measure, especially in the interest of aggrieved teachers and students.”The statement said that, “The report of the inquiry committee constituted under section 12 (14) of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016, has recommended strong action against STES under the said act, and the same has been communicated to the society.” Karmalkar in the statement said that, “I assure all concerned, that university shall continue to safeguard the interest of all its stakeholders, especially teachers and students in this matter.”While the management issued a notification in December stating that salaries will be credited by 25th of every month till July 2018 by short-term borrowings, the staff remained unsatisfied with the response as there are other issues including arrears and pending salary.TOI had earlier reported that the founding president of Sinhgad Institutes Maruti Navale had stated two reasons for holding salaries of staff — a delayed grant of Rs 138 crore from the social welfare department towards scholarship reimbursements and non-receipt of fees from students..
