No more water release for crops, stock only for Pune

PUNE: The irrigation department on Monday stopped the release of water into the Mutha canal to ensure uninterrupted supply to Pune over the next few days.The decision was taken as water stock in the four dams, which cater to Pune’s needs, dipped to 3.07 TMC. The city requires 1.5 TMC of water per month.The irrigation department has also asked PMC to avoid wastage and use water judiciously. Over the last two days, the release was restricted before completely stopping on Monday.The 3-odd TMC will be reserved to meet the drinking water needs of the city and a few rural parts till July 31..
