Himalayan mountains defy erosion & continue to rise

Summary:

We show that the glacial buzzsaw progressively gets blunted as the temperature becomes much colder, well below the freezing point of water. The geologists have named this mechanism as ‘glacial buzzsaw’. Globally, mountain ranges are never higher than the regional snowline by 1.5km. This is due to the efficient erosion by glaciers and frost-cracking action that keep the heights of mountain on a check by rapid erosion. They also undertook theoretical calculations to confirm the quick decline of erosion at the Himalayan crests.Banerjee said the same mechanism may also be protecting the trans-Antarctic mountains, also known to deviate from the process..
