PET amp PETE bottle makers get 1 month for recycle plan

Pune: The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has given a month’s time to the manufacturers of PET and PETE bottles for coming up with recycle methods and print the buyback scheme price, else they would face action under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016.The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB)’s member secretary, P Anbalagan, told TOI that the manufacturers were given three months to come up with the specifications to ensure collection and recycling of the bottles on April 11. “As there has been no response, we have them a month’s time to fall in line,” he said.The MPCB would make a list of the manufacturers not submitting the specifications after a month and initiate action against them, he said.The state government decided to defer the implementation of the buyback scheme for PET and PETE bottles by a month after manufacturers failed to submit their plans for collecting and recycling the bottles.The buyback scheme means people would have to pay extra (between Re1 and Rs2) while buying PET and PETE bottles..
