New airport terminal to take wings by 2021

Pune: The new integrated terminal building of Pune Airport will be ready by mid-2021 and become operational by the later half of the same year, an Airports Authority of India (AAI) official said.ITD Cementation India Limited will construct the building at a cost of around Rs 359 crore. “The new building is coming up at the right time to handle more traffic," an AAI official said.The new building will measure 40,000 square meter. The existing building is 22,300 square meter in size. Pune airport director Ajay Kumar, while stating that the new building will be GRIHA-4 complaint, said he was expecting the environmental clearance to come within a month after which the actual construction of the project will begin.During the last fiscal, the airport had clocked 8 million in passenger traffic, which is expected to rise to 10 million by 2021. The project will be completed within 30 months from the actual start of construction, officials said.Earlier, the expected date of completion of the new building was 2022.Pune MP and chairman of Pune airport advisory committee Anil Shirole said that the tender for the new terminal building has been awarded to ITD Cementation India Limited, having its corporate office in Mumbai.Egis India, appointed consultant for the project, has already presented the final design of the building, which has been approved by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).Earlier this week, a public hearing on the environmental impact of the project was held in the city..
