PIMPRI CHINCHWAD/PUNE: In a major crackdown, the Pimpri Chinchwad police have started registering criminal cases under section 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against people driving their vehicles on the wrong side of the road. If convicted under the section, a driver can be fined Rs 1,000 or imprisoned for up to six months, or both.On Tuesday, the Pimpri Chinchwad police booked 19 vehicle users, including four-wheeler drivers, under the section for driving on the wrong side of the road. The Pune police are also contemplating a similar action against such offenders. The police will soon file a chargesheet against them..
