MSRTC set to hike fares by 10% for Diwali

MUMBAI: While MSRTC is set to hike fares from November 1 to 20 for all buses by 10% for Diwali , one of the biggest workers' unions held a hunger strike on Tuesday. The union had crippled services across the state during last year's Diwali too.Sandeep Shinde of S T Kamgar Sangh wants no action against workers who had protested in June, among other issues. Services will not be hit during Diwali." Another official said the management will dissuade the union from protesting.Shrirang Barge of S T Karmachari Congress said some other bigger unions were not supporting the stir. He expects many drivers and conductors to join the protest but he has been called by the management for talks.An MSRTC spokesperson said, "All 18,000 buses will be on the road to cater to more than 65 lakh daily commuters..
