Pune civic body gives nod to subsidy for free bus passes

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s ( PMC ) has given its nod to sanction funds to compensate the Pune Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) for providing free bus passes to the commuters Nearly three lakh commuters, including students, use PMPML bus passes. The municipal corporation-run schools get 100 per cent aid for the bus passes, while students from private schools get 75 per cent discount. The students include students from PMC schools as well as private schools.The civic body will give Rs 7.5 crore to compensate the loss of revenue. A total of 6923 students from civic body schools and 13,164 students of private schools will get the benefit of this scheme.The PMPML was established in 2007 by merging the then two public transport bodies - Pune Municipal Transport (PMT) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Transport (PCMT). The contract for the merger has a provision of making PMC and PCMC pay for the subsidy..
