Pune Mechanised road sweeping to start from Sat

PUNE: The mechanised sweeping of roads by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will start from Saturday.“The PMC has procured the machines for mechanised sweeping. A 28 % GST will have to be paid additionally.The city has over 20,000 workers, who are directly or indirectly involved in the road cleaning or garbage disposal. The contractor has planned to buy 9 road sweeper trucks, each will cost around Rs 78 lakh. Apart from that it will also be a time saver.The areas that were chosen for the first phase included Ahmednagar road, Sinhagad Road, Karve road, Hadapsar and Satara road.PMC will spend Rs 48 crore on this project for the next five years. The standing committee of PMC had approved the proposal in July.The proposal had stated that the project aims at providing new age machines for cleaning the roads..
