Assets worth Rs 3395cr secured in fraud cases

PUNE: The economic offences wing ( EOW ) of the Pune police has managed to secure Rs 3 ,395 crore belonging to various investors who were allegedly cheated by different companies , including DSK Group of companies, and credit cooperative societies in the past one year.Besides, the police have returned Rs 3.36 crore to various investors who were duped in different financial frauds last year, EOW officials said.The officials said they could secure Rs 3,395 by timely invoking the provisions of the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) Act on the offending companies or cooperative societies. Thousands of people have approached the Pune police with their cheating complaints against these businessmen/establishments.These investors have stated in their complaints that the offenders floated companies and accepted fixed deposits, investments and also sold shares to them on the promise of handsome returns.In DS Kulkarni case, the police have seized assets worth Rs 297 crore, while in Citrus Check-In case, assets worth Rs 1,300 crore have been seized, the officials said, adding that in Kalyani credit cooperative case, the police have managed to seize property worth over Rs 7 crore.Singh said all the procedures were followed as per the directions of the courts to seize these properties.“All these properties will be auctioned and the money will be returned to the investors who were duped by the offenders,” she added. Thereafter, a team headed by deputy commissioner of police (EOW) Jyoti Priya Singh seized the properties and assets of the companies involved in various fraud cases under the MPID Act.The team also regularly followed up with the state government authorities, especially revenue officials who have powers to seal the bank accounts, movable and immovable properties and other valuables of the offenders.Singh said the police were still in the process of seizing properties of some fraudsters.Last year, fraud cases like that involving D S Kulkarni, Temple Rose Real Estate, Citrus Check-in, Sanskar Group, Kalyani Credit Cooperative Society, Virtual Currency Scam and others surfaced in the city..
