The average length of stay for patients in Pune is higher than Mahrashtra’s or India’s averages, according to a study of the number of days COVID patients spent on ventilators in ICUs.

On average, a critical patient is spending 8.8 days in the ICU in the city hospitals.

The case fatality rate in the Pune district is the same as the national average but lower than Maharashtra’s.

A Covid patient will stay longer on a ventilator in an ICU as compared to other health issues as recovery is tougher, according to doctors.

Dr H.K.

Sale, executive director of Noble Hospitals told the Hindustan Times, “We have had patients who were on ventilators for almost 90 days, or in one case, for 43 days on an invasive ventilator and then 11 days on a non-invasive ventilator.

The first patient could not survive while the second patient was discharged.

We have observed that once a Covid patient enters the critical phase, it is difficult for the person to recover.
