14 schoolkids injured after van overturns in Tilda

RAIPUR: At least 14 children were injured after the pick-up van they were travelling in overturned in Tilda region of Raipur district on Monday.At least three children remain in serious condition following the accident in which the van overturned after its driver lost control of the vehicle's steering.The van was travelling from Tarashiv to Tarpongi village carrying 18 to 19 students who were to participate in a district-level sports competition. Meanwhile parents have demanded action against the school and the driver and accused the school of negligence for sending off children on a rented van with no school staff to accompany the children.According to villagers, the van was too small to accommodate 14 children and it looked like they were stuffed in it. The van's driver, who was over-speeding, lost control of the steering after which the vehicle overturned on the side of the road in Kirna village.Villagers, who soon rushed to the children's rescue, retrieved them out from the van from where they were eventually taken to Tilda hospital.Police said that among the 14 children injured, condition of three was serious and were referred to Raipur for treatment..
