RAIPUR: Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) is scheduled to meet at New Delhi on October 12 to finalize the list of candidates for the Chhattisgarh assembly polls.Party sources said that the screening committee, led by Bhubneshwar Kalita had met to scrutinize the list of candidates provided by the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress committee. The CEC may also finalize candidates from the constituencies going to polls in the second phase on November 20, for which PCC has recommended single names. Making its efforts to wrest power from the BJP after a span of 15 years, Congress is expected to field new faces in several constituencies, particularly in the light of the contest likely to become a triangular contest with Janata Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) forming a pre-poll alliance.Meanwhile, senior Congress leaders, including leader of the opposition TS Singhdeo, former union minister Dr Charandas Mahant, former leader of opposition Ravindra Choubey and state Congress working president Ramdayal Uike and other leaders flew to Dantewada to offer prayers at the famous Ma Denteshwari temple before the party kicks off its campaign for the upcoming polls..
