RAIPUR: Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Sunday that the practice being followed by senior officials during the previous BJP government to make only Whatsapp calls fearing phone tapping should be stopped immediately.Speaking at an alumni meet of Nagarjuna Post Graduate College of Science, the CM said, "Vivek Dhand, who was chief secretary during the BJP government, is present here. Even he was afraid of talking over telephone and used to make only Whatsapp calls. The alumni meet was attended by former chief secretary Vivek Dhand, state's advocate general Kanak Tiwari and other prominent people, who were old students of the science college.The issue of illegal phone tapping had come to public domain after two senior IPS officers, including a special director general of police, were booked under the provisions of Indian Telegraph Act and other provisions of Indian Penal Code (IPC) during a fresh probe by a special Investigation team into the multi-crore PDS scam.FIRs have been registered against EOW's then ADG Mukesh Gupta, who was also ADG intelligence for a long time, and the then SP (EOW) Rajnesh Singh after the SIT probe found that more than a dozen phone numbers were under interception without proper permission as required under the law.Meanwhile, BJP's veteran tribal leader Nankiram Kanwar, who is also a former home minister, had submitted to chief minister Bhupesh Baghel a written complaint which also indicated towards phone tapping by certain police officers..
