RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh government on Friday said that there is no dearth of oxygen for patients of Covid-19 and other serious diseases.

Around 386.9 metric tons of oxygen is being produced in the state every day, whereas the need for 5,898 patients with oxygen support is only 110.3 MT.

All government and private hospitals are being supplied oxygen according to need, officials said.  “Coronavirus patients are dying due to severe infection and allied complications, but so far no death has occurred due to lack of oxygen in Chhattisgarh,” said a government official.

Health department data says oxygen consumption has increased in the state since March 14 due to the relentless rise in Covid patients needing oxygen support.

As on March 14, there were only 197 patients on oxygen support, and the demand was 3.68 MT a day.

A month on, the demand has risen to 110.3 MT with 5,898 patients on oxygen.

In Chhattisgarh, 27 pressure swing absorption (PSA) oxygen generator plants are generating nearly 177 MT oxygen on a daily basis.

Apart from this, 210 MT is produced daily by two manufacturers.
