19 crore gallons of Narmada water goes waste

RAJKOT: A glitch in a pumping station resulted in colossal waste of crores of litres of precious Narmada water in the scarcity-hit Kutch district on Thursday night. The technical problem happened at the pumping station near Rapar, which resulted in nearly 18.49 crore gallons of water going waste.The water, which was to flow into the Tappar dam , continuously overflowed in the desert for nearly 10 hours. It was only on Friday morning that the repairs were carried out at the pumping station and the wastage stopped.The Narmada water was meant to be supplied to Tappar dam to deal with the water scarcity of the district..
