Sensitivity towards endangered birds boosts conservation, say experts

R Moammed Saleem, president of ECG, said, “The number of species recorded in Gujarat has risen to 300 so far. The team recently concluded its visit of Gujarat.The team comprising of four experts, interact with various segments of the society especially students to spread the message on bird and nature conservation. The Gujarat leg of expedition was in partnership with Gujarat Institute of Desert Ecology (GIDE) whose president V Viay Kumar said, “The ECG team have found that the people of Gujarat are very sensitive about birds and that contributes a lot in conservation of endangered species.” We could also locate birds like grey hypocollius, a spices with restricted distribution limited to Kutch district in the country.” Birds recorded by the team during survey include black necked stork, bartailed godwit, black tailed godwit, curlews, spoonbills, sandpipers, redstarts- a variety of flycatchers, beaters, cranes and several waders.The team had reached Gujarat after completing Karnataka and Maharashtra..
