Rajkot: Soon , all major cities of Saurashtra and Kutch region and three important pilgrim places will be getting uninterrupted electricity supply without fluctuations and reduced transmission losses.The state-run power distribution company Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (PGVCL), which supplies power to Saurashtra and Kutch region, is on the verge of completing the conversion of 480km of overhead high tension (HT) power cables network into an underground cable network.Nearly 80% work of laying underground HT power cable network under the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) has been completed. The move will ensure uninterrupted power supply to the temple towns like Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.According to PGVCL, 30km of HT line, 48km of LT line and 8,000 consumer overhead lines will be converted to underground network. However the low-tension (LT) lines from small transformers to electricity polls will remain open.Managing director of PGVCL B K Pandya said, “Converting the power line to underground network will reduce the power outage and ensure uninterrupted and reliable power supply without fluctuations. This means it will reduce power loss during transfer of power from substation to transformer which will in turn reduce the cost incurred by power companies.In Dwarka, both the HT and LT lines will be converted into underground network at the cost of Rs 17 crore..
