Dalit boy takes board exam under police protection

Palanpur: The 17-year-old Dalit boy Meet Chavda, who was allegedly tied to a tree and beaten by two persons and prevented from taking class XII board exam, on Saturday appeared for his last paper under police protection in Patan.His mother Tarunaben said, “My son was beaten up as part of a conspiracy to ruin his career.” She and her husband had migrated from Patan district to Mehsana. She has also urged the government to ensure that Meet’s year is not wasted as he was not allowed to appear for his English paper.TArunaben has also demanded police protection for her son and family till the accused in the case are arrested.Police have detained two persons identified as Harsh Patel from Dhanodrda in Patan and Mahendra Patel from Dabhi village of Unjha taluka in Mehsana in connection with the case, said deputy superintendent of police RP Zala of Patan.“We are looking for the others named by the boy in his complaint,” he added.tnn.
