Bypoll bugle for panchayat, municipal bodies

Ranchi: The state election commission (SEC) on Tuesday notified bypolls for 2,104 vacant posts in various local governance bodies (panchayat and zila parishad levels) across all districts and five posts in four civic bodies falling in two different districts. "The entire polling process will begin on November 22 and end on December 23," he said.Coming to the panchayat polls, elections will be held to fill 1,956 vacant posts of panchayat members, 57 mukhiyas, 88 panchayat samiti across 1254 gram panchayats and three zila parishad members respectively .Similarly, bypolls for municipal bodies will be held for Mihijam Nagar Parishad (Jamtara) and Adityapur Municipal Corporation, Kapali Nagar Parishad and Seraikela Nagar Panchayat - all under Seraikela-Khersawan district. A total of five posts - one vice chairman (Kapali Nagar Parishad) and five posts of ward councillors in each municipal body, barring Kapalai Nagar Parishad will be filled.About polling booths, Pandey said that for three-tier panchayat polls, a total of 3,683 polling booths will be set up across 2,749 buildings. Counting will take place on December 22 from 7am-3pm.Symbols will be allotted on December 4 from 11am onwards..
