Das to launch milk project for kids, to help fight anaemia

"The children in Jharkhand are undernourished and their overall health condition can be improved significantly by introducing fortified milk in their daily diet,"Rath said. "During the nationwide study conducted on growing children in the state, it was found that most of the children suffer from anaemia, vitamin A and D deficiency. Yet, we dared to move forward, with the support of our co-operative dairy farms, allied industrial houses and other corporates who spent a part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) fund for the purpose. Starting with Latehar the scheme is all set to be launched in other districts as well.NDDB has also engaged a team of doctors from Rajendra Insitute of Medical Science to conduct a baseline survey before and after introduction of the milk supplement in children's daily diet. RANCHI: Chief minister Raghubar Das will launch a scheme under National Dairy Development Board, Rural Electrification Corporation of India and state government, where 200ml fortified flavoured milk, enriched with vitamin A and D, will be provided to Classes I to V students under the 'Gift milk scheme' in Latehar on Tuesday.On the occasion of golden jubilee celebration of NDDB in 2015-16, the board had decided to tackle the challenge of undernourishment among young children through out the country by providing them with a glass full of fortified milk everyday.While addressing the media on Monday, NDDB chairman Dilip Rath said, "It was a big challenge for us to make a perishable item available to the school kids every morning..
