CM Conrad K Sangma urges Centre to scale up tourism in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: Chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday called on Union tourism minister KJ Alphons in New Delhi along with state tourism minister Metbah Lyngdoh and sports minister Banteidor Lyngdoh and urged the Centre to help boost tourism in Meghalaya The chief minister submitted a memorandum to the Union tourism minister to implement Swadesh Darshan Scheme in Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills to scale up the tourism potential of the state. "As part of the northeast circuit, which has been taken up by the Union ministry of tourism, we have submitted a proposal to put adequate thrust on popular tourism circuits in Meghalaya to enhance infrastructure and build better amenities to facilitate tourism," the chief minister said after his meeting with Alphons.The Union ministry of tourism has taken up 13 thematic circuits to promote tourism in the country, which includes the northeast India circuit, the eco circuit, the wildlife circuit, the rural circuit and the heritage circuit, besides other projects..
