Night curfew lifted from Shillong

SHILLONG: The district magistrate of East Khasi Hills district on Monday lifted night curfew from whole of the capital city in view of improvement in the law and order situation.Curfew was in force in the city for the last two and a half months following an altercation in the Harijan Colony and subsequent mob violence. It was initially imposed in the localities of Jaiaw, Mawkhar, Umsohsun, Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Mission, Mawprem, Lumdiengjri, Lamavilla, Qualapatty, Wahthapbru, Sunny Hill, Cantonment, Mawlong Hat and was subsequently extended to the entire state capital in order to pre-empt violence.There was gradual relaxation in the curfew hours from June 1 last, but the district administration continued to impose curfew from midnight till 5 am the next morning throughout the city for all these weeks..
