Blind walks held in Shillong, Tura

SHILLONG: On the occasion of World Sight Day on Thursday, blind walks were organized in Shillong and Tura on Friday to spread awareness about eye donation. The walks, which were organized by 'Project Vision Northeast', aimed to sensitize people on the problem of blindness as well as its preventions and cures. Sunny Joseph Mavelil, representatives of the Mothers' Union, Tura, Lion's Club of Tura, Rotary Club of Tura, Marwari Yuva Manch , Central Puja Committee, Tura and church leaders walked the streets blindfolded, led by visually challenged children from the Montford School. He also listed some of the measures that the government has taken up for the welfare of the visually challenged.Hundreds of people, including school children, took part in the 'Blind Walk' at Tura. Free eye screening camps were also organized by different organizations in several parts of the state.In Shillong, visually impaired persons led the walk which was joined by people with normal vision who walked blindfolded..
