Shillong | Monday | 20th April, 2020

Summary:

A REPORTERSHILLONG: The crematorium of the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority at Jhalupara, managed and operated by the Greater Shillong Crematorium & Mortuary Society (GSC&MS) will be kept in operation and ready, as and when necessary, for the cremation of COVID-19 victims and shall also be used for incineration of bio-medical wastes. The unanimous decisions were taken after threadbare deliberations in a meeting held by Minister of Urban Affairs Hamletson Dohling with members of the Greater Shillong Crematorium & Mortuary Society recently. The meeting was convened in view of the unfortunate events that ensued after the first COVID-19 death in Meghalaya. The meeting also decided that the crematorium staff will have to be sensitized on the protocols pertaining to disposal of dead bodies of COVID-19 victims as well as other protocols relating to COVID-19. Besides, Personal Protection Equipments (PPEs) will be made available to the crematorium staff and operators..
