Himachal Pradesh: Man killed by hunters' bullet in Kangra

The poachers who were out on a hunt in the area fired a shot to kill a wild animal that hit Raj Kumar on the head and he died on the spot.The police have registered a case and was investigating the case. Though the forest officials have registered case under wildlife protection act against unidentified persons, no arrests have been made till date.Last year the police had caught poachers from Bhatiyat area of Chamba district adjoining Kangra district and recovered hides of leopards and body parts of other wild animals. DHARAMSALA: Forest department and police have evidently failing to curb the poaching activities in this lower part of the Himachal Pradesh where poaching activities were taking the lives of wild animals and stray cattle.On Sunday, a man was killed after few hunters fired a bullet which hit a pharmacist of veterinary department in Fatehpur area of Kangra district adjacent to Punjab borders, about 60 Kms from here.It was in last 20 days only when three leopards, protected under wild life act schedule 1, were killed in Palampur area of Kangra district. One of them was found with its teeth and nails hacked away.On Sunday, an accidental gunshot by alleged poachers killed Raj Kumar, an assistant pharmacist posted in veterinary dispensary located in village Pakhali in Fatehpur area of Kangra district.The sources available here said that Raj Kumar had gone to answer natures call in forest located along the dispensary in which he was posted..
