Gorkha soldiers from Subathu cantonment have the rare distinction of having witnessed all the wars Indian Army fought since World War-I. It is the legendry closequarter weapon of the Gorkha soldiers. According to military veterans, the sight of unsheathed Khukri in the hands of Gorkha soldiers has caused the enemy to flee the battlefield in terror.Khukri was used to devastating effect by Gorkha soldiers in the Anglo-Nepal war, World Wars I and II, Indo-Pak wars and 1982-Falkland war. While 1GR, 3 GR, 4GR, 5GR, 8GR, and 9GR remained with the Indian Army, 2GR, 6GR, 7GR and 10GR went with the British army.Post-Independence, Indian Army raised a new regiment called 11GR.
