Bad weather obstructed IAF search operation for crashed AN12 in 1968

Shimla | Friday | 27th July, 2018

Summary:

The aircraft, however, could not land at Leh due to poor weather. However, the glacier where the search operations are underway for the past many years, lies at an altitude of approximately 16,000-18,000 feet and is avalanche-prone and dotted with crevasses. The remains were found at the Dhaka glacier base camp, 6,200 metres above sea level. As of now the Army and IAF have conducted several search mission/expeditions to find the bodies and wreckage of the aircraft. Both were from Chandigarh. High velocity winds and sub-zero temperature are also some other factors..
