Chamba school rapes: NHRC seeks govt response

SHIMLA: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognizance of alleged incidents of the rape of minor girls in a primary school of Chamba district by a Class IV employee of the school. After completion of investigations, a chargesheet was filed in the court and the accused is in juicial custody. He said there were Supreme Court directions that action should be initiated against those involved in such incidents.Chamba SP Monika Bhatungru said a case was registered on June 1, the day of the incident and the accused was arrested immediately. It has sought reply from the Himachal Pradesh government about the incident.According to information, after receiving the letter from the NHRC, the state government has sought reply from the district administration, the SP and the deputy director (education) of Chamba, regarding the action taken against the accused employee.The accused, employed as peon in the school, had allegedly raped a minor girl on June 1. Ghaziabad-based organization Centre for Human Rights had raised the issue with the NHRC, following which latter has sought reply from the state government.In the letter, secretary (education) Dr Arun Sharma has asked how the employee responsible for the incident was still in the job and why had the school management and deputy director not taken any action against him..
