30 kmph trial run on Kalka-Shimla track conducted

CHANDIGARH: To cut down on the travel time on the Kalka-Shimla section a trial run was conducted by running a locomotive at a speed of 30 kmph by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO). Sources said that the RDSO team conducted the trial on January 25.At present the permissible speed on this track is a minimum of 22 kmph and a maximum 24 kmph and at some tunnels and curves the permissible speed is only 8kmph. He said that the report of the RDSO on the trial was awaited. The division has already submitted the request for the trial by the chief commissioner, railway safety (CCRS), which will be conducted after the RDSO report is submitted, he added.Sources said that after the report would be submitted by the RDSO the division would conduct a trial with seven coaches. He said that the division was trying for the speed limit of 35kmph but if the permission was granted for 30kmph, it would be fine with them..
