Himachal Pradesh avalanche: 6 days on, 5 missing Army jawans still untracable

SHIMLA: Operation to locate the five army jawans of 7 J-K Rifles missing after an avalanche in Namgia Dogri area of Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh resumed on Monday.At least 275 personnel, including 40 to 50 ITBP jawans, have been deployed in the area to locate the missing soldiers.Despite the cloudy weather, the search party moved towards the spot at 7am. One jawan was rescued from the snow, but his life could not be saved as he succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Pooh.According to officials of Kinnaur district administration, expert engineers of the army were also present at the spot for cutting of snow and drilling. Due to the concerted efforts of the army and the Border Road Organisation, the track has been partially cleared.The missing soldiers have been identified as naik Videsh Chand, rifleman Govind Bahadur Chhetri, rifleman Rajesh Rishi, rifleman Arjun Kumar and rifleman Nitin Rana.Specially-trained rescue dogs, rock drills and chain saws have also been deployed in the area.Despite the herculean efforts, the missing jawans could not be traced on Monday and with the each passing day the single minute chances of their survival are slimming.Six jawans were buried under the snow following the avalanche on Wednesday while they were repairing a frozen water pipe in the nullah between Dogri and Namgia along Shipkila pass in Pooh block..
