A traffic jam where massive numbers of cars were stuck was found on the Himachal Pradesh highway after easing in restrictions which prompted tourists to flock to Shimla on Sunday.

Dozens of vehicles were stranded at the inter-state barriers at Parwanoo, where the cops were scrutinizing Covid e-pass of travelers arriving from neighboring states.

With the mercury soaring across northern India, tourists are heading to the hills for some respite from the scorching summer heat.

Intrastate public transport has been allowed to operate with 50 percent occupancy and the timing of the opening of shops has been increased from 9 am to 5 pm from Monday.

On Sunday, Himachal Pradesh recorded 237 new Covid-19 cases and seven fatalities, of which five deaths were reported from the Kangra district.

A total number of 855 positive patients have also recovered in the state.

The state has 19,85,50 total confirmed positive cases of which 4,777 cases are active, 19,03,77 patients have recovered while 3,375 have died.
