Social activists urge state govt to allow outside food in theatres

Surat: Close on the heels of announcement made by Maharashtra Government to allow moviegoers to carry their own food items inside theatres from August 1, social activists running the campaign ‘My Movie , My Food’ in the city have demanded that this be implemented in Gujarat too.The campaign has been started by Society For Citizen Centric Governance (SCCG) to spread awareness among moviegoers to carry their own food and water bottles inside theatres and multiplexes. They say multiplex owners are illegally restraining visitors to carry outside food so that they can earn huge profits from their own restaurants and cafeterias.National Yuva Sangathan last week had appealed the moviegoers to boycott watching movies in multiplexes and theatres as they are not being allowed to carry outside food and are forced to purchase food from restaurants and food plazas inside the multiplexes at exorbitant prices.SCCG president Arpit Shukla told TOI, “Maharashtra Government’s decision to allow outside food inside the multiplexes have come after an order by high court there..
