Summary:

The campaign aims at getting across the value we bring to the country’s economy and positive impact that we have on the lives of so many millions. It will cover business dailies and periodicals as well as magazines and other media that reach out to opinion makers.“We believe that this will impact perceptions about our industry and help people of this country get a better understanding of the role we play in nation building,” Shah concluded. Surat: Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has launched a campaign for portraying the industry as a valuable asset of the country.Official sources said five different aspects are being portrayed to get the message across – the industry’s pre-eminent position in the global industry; its contribution to the nation’s GDP; massive number of employment opportunities it creates; measures implemented for enhancing workers’ welfare and positive impact this has on the quality of life of their families.GJEPC vice-chairman Colin Shah said, “Public at large is not aware of the contribution that the industry makes to nation building. The industry contributes 7% to the nation’s GDP, provides direct employment to 5 million workers and makes huge contribution to improving standard of living and quality of life of their families.”Shah stated that not many people are aware of India’s leadership position in the global diamond industry or that a combination of latest technology in modern factories along with cutting and polishing skills passed down over generations lie at the core of the industry’s success.GJEPC plans to run this campaign over the next 12 months in print and digital media..
