40 booked for torching BRTS bus damaging eight bus stops

Surat: Forty persons were booked in Sarthana police station on Monday for allegedly torching a BRTS bus near Yogi Chowk on Sunday. At least 48 BRTS and 30 city buses remained in depots, thus affecting the daily travel itinerary of approximately 30,000 people. On Monday, state transport and city buses were cancelled in the areas affected by the protest. The attackers also damaged bus stops around Yogi Chowk and and Puna Simada road.The complaint was lodged by a BRTS bus driver, who alleged that he was taking the bus to a safe location when the rioters came on motorcycles and started pelting stones at the vehicle. Surat Municipal Corporation authorities on Monday too cancelled bus trips on three routes from railway station..
