Vijaya Dena Bank staff oppose merger with BOB

Surat: Members of Gujarat Bank Workers’ Union (GBWU) held a demonstration in the city to protest against Central Government’s decision to merge Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank with Bank of Baroda (BOB) on Tuesday.GBWU members said they will force the government to rescind its decision. State Bank of India has a total NPA of Rs1.12 lakh crore followed by its five subsidiary banks’ NPAs of Rs66,000 crore. The total NPAs according to RBI is Rs2.25 lakh crore, which means there is an increase of Rs86,000 crore NPA in a year. The BOB is a profit earning bank and now it will come in the NPA list due to the merger of the two banks with it.” Merger of the banks will increase unemployment in the country..
