2 housemaids held for multiple thefts

Surat: Surat crime branch officials on Friday caught two young housemaids who had stolen ornaments and cash from the homes of their employers. Police detected seven offences of thefts and recovered Rs1,44,900 worth valuables, including cash from the two women.Tina alias Pooja Paswan, 26, and Bharti alias Pooja Nishad, 25, were picked up from Hedgewar Bridge in Pandesara. We expect to detect several more cases involving the duo,” a police officer said. The duo used to take up jobs as housemaids and then flee with cash or ornaments of their employers, police said.The two women had committed several thefts since 2016 in areas under the limits of Khatodara, Udhna, Bhatar, Adajan, Pal, Vesu, Umra and Athwa police stations. Bharti was caught in a case registered at Khatodara police station whereas Tina for cases lodged at Umra and Athwa police stations against her.“We have been collecting CCTV footages about these two women from our informers..
