Two booked for impersonating cops, duping four of Rs 5 lakh

Surat: Two men were booked on Tuesday for impersonating cops and duping four persons of Rs 5 lakh in Sarthana area on February 5. Though the accused duo had returned Rs 4lakh out of the Rs 5lakh they had taken from the victims, a cheating case was registered against the duo. According to police, two autorickshaw drivers — Mobin and Altaf — residents of Unn Patiya stopped four friends Mitul, Haresh, Arvind and Chatur on February 5 evening opposite Celebrace Farm on BRTS Road. However, police constable whose name was misused, registered a complaint for cheating against the duo. They introduced themselves as PSI AS Bariya and constable Aswin Dangar.The accused duo threatened the four friends travelling in a car that since they were possessing liquor and large amount of cash they will have to come to police station and a case will be registered against them.However, Mitul and his friends decided to settlement the matter and paid the imposters Rs 5 lakh for their release.Nearly a week after the incident, the police was informed that two imposters had duped four victims When the police approached the victims, they said that if they get their money back they won’t register an FIR.Mabin and Altaf returned Rs 4 lakh to the victim a week later..
