Surat: School trustee, principal booked for cheating students

SURAT: Three persons including trustee and principal of a school were booked in Rander police station on Tuesday for allegedly giving admission to students though the school was derecognized since 2016.The complaint was lodged by district education officer (DEO) H H Rajyaguru after a recent order by Gujarat high court.Police booked Maa Durga Trust’s president Manju Singh and its secretary Ankit Singh and Rita Chaudhary, principal of Prabhat Tara School. Earlier, the school had approached court seeking relief for 54 board students of class X and XII who admitted, but GSHSEB had refused to take their exam due to derecognition.Sources in the education department said that the school has around 500 students. However, when the students reached in class X or XII, they were not allowed as they were not regular student of a recognized school.The school was derecognized after rampant irregularities including hiring unqualified teachers, making students of various classes sit in one room and showing a playground that did not exist, sources said. The accused were booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code including criminal breach of trust and cheating.Their Hindi medium school in Tadwadi locality of Rander is running despite being derecognized by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) in October 2016.On February 12, the high court had ordered registering an FIR against the school trustees..
