Summary:

AHMEDABAD: Bettering the BJP’s 2014 election performance for would-be MPs in Gujarat will be a tall order for more reasons than one. “There was thus an emotional out-pour of voting in his favour which sent victory margins zooming,” said Pandya. Narendra Modi posted the biggest victory margin, winning by 5.7 lakh votes in Vadodara. This is the fourth highest victory margins in the history of India’s Lok Sabha elections.Modi’s performance was followed by C R Paatil, who won the Navsari seat by 5.58 lakh votes. While the BJP will find it a challenge to pull off an encore to its landslide victory, where it swept all the state’s 26 seats, the margins were humongous as well, with 24 candidates winning by more than 1 lakh votes, riding high on the “Modi-wave” of 2014.Only two candidates ‘scraped through’ with victory margins of less than one lakh votes..
