Monsoon not in full swing still, but gastrointestinal cases keep docs busy

It is surprising to see these patients even before the monsoon has started in full swing. If precautions are not taken, then there may be a lot of cases as there will be water puddles everywhere during monsoon, a breeding ground for mosquitoes. It is suspected that these patients have eaten vegetables without cleaning properly or are grown in infected, dirty water. Usually we get such complaints almost a week after the season starts. Also, people should make sure to take proper medications when they go in stagnant water to avoid leptospirosis,” said Dr Suparna Nirgudkar, consultant physician.Dr Gupte added that one should avoid eating outside and uncooked food during the season and consume only boiled or filtered water..
