Cops launch manhunt for mechanic’s aide in car theft cases

THANE: The anti-extortion cell has launched a manhunt to nab the accomplice of the mechanic who was arrested for the theft of seven cars. Shah would break open its lock and use the chassis number, engine number and number plate and emboss it on the stolen car. He would then search for the cars of the same make and model which would be parked on the street. The duo used to steal vehicles that were parked on the road,’’ said sub-inspector Hemant Dhole.Shah, being a mechanic, knew the make of the cars. The police had last week arrested Inayatullah Shah, a resident of Ghatkopar, for stealing seven cars across Thane, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.Investigations revealed that Shah was aided by the mechanic in locating the cars and helping Shah in stealing them..
