Summary:

THANE: Residents of plush complexes in Thane seem to be in no mood to accept the wet waste disposal orders issued by the Thane municipal corporation (TMC) in big residential societies. A resident questioned that if the TMC collects wet waste from vegetable, fruit, flower and meat markets, then why are society complexes singled out. However, with the new deadline approaching fast, residents are wary of the huge task lying ahead of them.“None of the societies in Thane are equipped with such kind of resource to handle the disposal of wet waste. Residents would unnecessarily be taxed with additional duty of ensuring disposal of wet waste, despite paying hefty taxes to the administration,” said a resident.Residents said that they were upset with the corporation dumping its responsibility on citizens. Referring to the Solid Waste Management Act 2016, the resident said that the TMC cannot force societies to process the wet waste.Meanwhile, residents said that they would meet civic commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal on Friday and hope a viable solution will be chalked out..
