Friend helps cops nab 6 for century-old temple theft

THANE: The friend of a history-sheeter identified a blurred CCTV image of the main accused in the temple robbery case on Monday. Police said main accused, Santosh used to collect scrap near the templePolice roped in several teams and found the blurred image of Santosh from a neighbouring CCTV camera. His friend recognised him and gave police his address in Diva, said an officer.A team went to the spot, and got his mobile number, which police tracked and found his location near Shil Phata, Diva village, Mhape and Vashi. This gave away all other accused in the Rs 44 lakh robbery case at the over century-old Krishna temple at Jambhli naka.The temple, in the heart of the city, is less than 400 metres away from Thane Nagar police station and two police chowkies fall in between.Police arrested six persons, including a married couple from Diva - Santosh Kamble (26), Rekha Kamble (21), Arun Sonkar (19), Sahjad Khan (25), Zulfikar Mansuri (22) and Aazad Saha (19)..
