‘Noise level remains high in city, DJ sound walls add to it’

Thane: The noise levels at some of the popular dahi handi mandals in Thane remained high during the first part of dahi handi celebrations on Monday.Anti-noise activist Mahesh Bedekar, who recorded the levels at some of the venues in the city said, the noise was in the range of 60-90dB till 4:20pm. When these systems were switched off intermittently, the noise was bearable. “The idea is to promote dahi handi as a sport for which we should set an example by staging a single handi probably at the Dadoji Kondeo stadium and invite mandals from Mumbai also to participate instead of blocking roads,” added Dr Bedekar. Yet, all these readings were high as they were in residential zones where the noise limits should not exceed 55dB,” said Dr Bedekar, who said he will be submitting the same before the Bombay high court soon.Activists stressed on the need of having a single Thane dahi handi celebrations that could become the identity of the city..
