Godowns in Bhiwandi raided, Rs 8 lakh gutkha seized

THANE: The Anti Narcotic Cell of city police raided two godowns in Bhiwandi and seized large stock of banned gutkha and tobacco products worth Rs 7.71 lakh.Police said the sealed godowns are attached to two shops — New Royal Supari and general stores and New Bombay Supari Kirana and general stores.The police arrested one person drug-pusher from the Wagle Estate area reportedly for selling ganja and recovered 6 kgs of marijuana worth Rs 9,50,000. An offence under the NDPS act section 8(‘C) 20 has been registered against him with the Shri Nagar police station, the police said.The cell has formed a special squad formed of ten, which includes eight constables as well as two officers who look out for the possible drug consumption.At the same time, the squad is also enforcing the public smoking which is banned and those flouting the guidelines of selling tobacco products in the vicinity of school and colleges.The squad are enforcing action against those involved in public smoking in the police commissionerate and so far 33 persons have been booked, added the officer..
