Mumbra man gets life for stabbing 14-year-old girl to death

THANE: The sessions court convicted a 28-year-old man from Mumbra for the murder of a 14-year-old girl and sentenced him to life and 10 years for attempt to murder of her father. When she refused, he stabbed her nearly 10 times and killed her.Her father who went to save her was also injured in the attack, Mishra added. The prosecutor said that two others who came to the scene fled on seeing him attacking the girl.Assistant sub-inspector S B Desai of Mumbra police said 13 witnesses, including the injured father, were examined in the trial. But the family was opposed to it and the girl told him she was a minor.The accused used to follow the girl and came close to her, said counsel for the victim, Sushma Mishra.Annoyed over the rejection, on November 3, 2014 the accused again went to her house and proposed to her. Zahir Sayyed was convicted by district judge S P Gondhalekar for offences punishable under sections 302, 307 and 452 of Indian Penal Code and fined Rs 6,000.Prosecutor Ujwala Moholkar told court that the accused was infatuated with the victim, then aged 14, and wanted to marry her and had expressed a desire to the family of the victim..
